Maria Cristina H. Requenez

PALMVIEW –The Requenez family mourns the passing of Maria Cristina Hinojosa Requenez who left this world on June 26, 2015, at the age of 91. Cristina was born and raised in San Jose, Texas. As a young lady, she captured the attention of Pedro Requenez during a community dance in La Reforma, TX. The couple married in 1942 and lovingly celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary July, 2002. As a young couple, they resided in Delmita, TX, and later started their family in Sullivan City, TX. After a few short years, they made the Mission/Palmview area their permanent residence. Cristina was a loving mother to 4 sons and 1 daughter. To family and friends, she was well known for her quilting, green thumb, guisados, and empanadas. Cristina’s homemade chilito and tortillas were always a family favorite. A typical Saturday for Cristina included her weekly hair appointment at Adela’s Beauty Salon and attending mass at St. John of the Fields Catholic Church in Mission. Cristina is preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Requenez, Sr., Pedro & Felipa Hinojosa (parents), Oscar Hinojosa (brother), Eliseo Hinojosa (brother), Saul Eli Requenez, Jr. (grandson), and Victoria Sofia Requenez (great-granddaughter). She is survived by her sister, Emma Benavidez (Benito); children: Amador Requenez (Alicia E.), Deacon Pedro Requenez, Jr. (Alicia R.), Margarito Requenez, Sr. (Maria Elena), Christina Garza, and Saul Eli Requenez (Bertha); grandchildren: Cynthia Requenez, Melissa Yanez (Ismael), Linda Requenez, Blanca Guerra (Omar), Lisa Requenez (Abel), Sandra Rodriguez (Ricardo), Margarito Requenez, Jr.(Jessica), Michael Requenez (Connie), Amanda Garza (Joe), Saul Eli Requenez, III, Christopher Garza (Patty), Marissa Requenez (Rigo), Justin Garza, Eric Requenez, 14 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Virgil Wilson Funeral Home in Mission on Sunday, June 28, 2015. Memorial Service will be held Monday, June 29, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at St. John of the Fields Catholic Church in Mission. Interment to follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Virgil Wilson Mortuary of Mission.
