Estefana Z. Garza

PENITAS – Estefana Z. Garza, 95, years old passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 20, 2017at McAllen Nursing Center in McAllen. She was born to Celestina Martinez Zamora and Andres Zamora on December 26, 1921 in Penitas, TX. She was born into the 7th generation Texan family that received the “Porciones” land grant from the King of Spain. Growing up, she was an original “Just us Girls” club member and served many locals in the Penitas community with special projects. She left many wonderful memories and shared her passion for singing, quilting, baking, making tamales, making menudo, gardening and taking care of her flowers. But most of all she is most remembered for her passionate faith and love of God. One of her greatest memories was being able to travel abroad to Germany to visit her son while he was serving in the United States Air Force. Her granddaughters most remember all of the grandmotherly advice she shared with them over the years. She always reminded us to put God first in our lives and have faith always. She reminded us to always treat our spouses as if we were still courting each other in marriage. She never complained nor was grumpy and in all of our singing sessions and conversation with her there was always an uplifting message at the end. She was preceded in death by her spouse Norberto Garza+, son Lorenzo+(Lupina) Garza, sisters Rebecca Ramirez+, Andrea Bueno+ and grandson Milton Garza+. Left to cherish her memory is her loving family: Susanna Lerma, Carmen (Ramon+) Flores, and Efren (Sara) Garza. She will be greatly missed by her 7 grandchildren; Pamela Lerma Granado (Robert), Susanmarie Lerma, Priscilla (Joel) Gonzalez, Sabrina Lerma, Joel (Irma) Garza and Dahlia(Paul) DeLais. 7 great grandchildren: Celeste Perales, Justin Gonzalez, Gabrianne Granado, Ciera Gonzalez, Avery Lerma, Mathias Garza…Belen, Chloe and Ebony DeLaise and 1 great-great grandchild Damian Lerma and her brother Genaro (Maria Manuela+) Zamora of Donna. Family will receive friends to celebrate her life Friday, June 23, 2017 from 9 am to 12 pm with a prayer service at 11 am at the Lord & I Funeral home in Penitas, TX. The family would like to express their gratitude to Compassionate Hospice, McAllen Nursing Center and Home Away From Home Adult Day Care for caring for our mother, grandmother and great grandmother with the utmost of care.
