Raquel Hurtado

Raquel Hurtado passed away peacefully to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness, on September 22, 2024, at the age of 93 at Las Alturas Nursing Home in Peñitas, Texas. Raquel is survived by her sister Maria Hurtado, sister-in-law Esperanza Hurtado, nieces Carmen Herrera, Adam, Monica and Jacob Arasteh and Maria Elena (Najera) Hurtado, nephews Alex, Keane and Aiden Herrera, Felipe Hurtado and Gaspar Najera, and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Felipe Hurtado and Maria del Refugio Lucio Hurtado and siblings Gabriel Hurtado, Ernestina and Maria del Refugio Lucio Hurtado and siblings Gabriel Hurtado, Ernestina (Ferrer) Hurtado, Maria de la Luz (Ochoa) Hurtado and Josefina (Rivera) Hurtado. Raquel was a homemaker, born in Mexico, had lived in Mission most of her life. Raquel lived a simple quiet life, but a great sense of humor. She would always greet people with a smile. She loved nature and animals. Her garden was her love and joy. Often people confused her garden with a nursery. If someone asked her for a cutting of some plant, she would gladly give them one but not of her favorite plants, of course. Keeping up with the news was her daily routine, mostly because her novela followed. Raquel had a sweet tooth, she seldom turned down pan dulce, a doughnut or candy, of any kind. She delighted on a slice of her birthday cake four days before her passing. The staff of the nursing home facility, friends and family gathered to celebrate her day. The family wishes to thank so many businesses and individuals for medical and household assistance to Raquel, in particular, Las Alturas Nursing home in Penitas, Texas. All the personnel provided excellent service and support to Raquel and the family, also the staff at DaVita Mission Dialysis, where Raquel had been a patient for the past 13 years. First Choice Ambulance were always on time to transport her to and from any of her medical treatments. El Jardin Provider Services that made sure Raquel would receive adequate homemaker services. There were so many providers that always helped Raquel in more ways than one, such as Nereida Paz and Adelina “Lili” Cortez who helped her for four years and always checked on her. A visitation for Raquel Hurtado will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, starting at 10:00 am at Virgil Wilson Mortuary in Mission, Texas, followed by a chapel service at 12:00 pm and a burial at 1:00 pm at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Mission, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to their individual parish or favorite charity. Virgil Wilson Funeral Home of Mission is in charge of funeral arrangements.
