Maria Criselda Cavazos

Maria Criselda Cavazos, 1938-2023: Criselda Cavazos entered heaven’s gates on August 17, 2023, at the age of 84 at her home surrounded by her loving family in Mission, Texas. She was born in Diaz Ordaz, Mexico to Alberto Ybarra and Josefa Flores. Cris, as she was affectionately known, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Cris graduated from Mission High School with honors in 1959 and married the love of her life Jorge Cavazos on April 2, 1960 and together they shared 4 children and two grandchildren. They traveled the world together and their love for each other was immeasurable. Cris was very independent and decided to work while Jorge was overseas in the navy. While stationed in California, Cris began a long career working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a phone operator. She worked her way up to management and retired from the Harlingen branch in 1993. Cris was known for her amazing cooking skills. She collected many cookbooks and loved to cook, especially for her family. She loved her desert rose flowers and wind chimes. On a windy day you could hear all the chimes singing away on the back patio. And she especially enjoyed her Mexican novellas. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great friend to all who were blessed with her charm and kindness. Cris is survived by her four children, Dorinda (Patrick) Wheeless of Round Rock, Texas, David (Elizabeth) Cavazos of Mission, Texas, Dahlia Cavazos (Herman Ronje) of Houston, Texas. Deanna Cavazos of Mission, Texas. Two grandchildren Christopher Patrick Wheeless and Ariana Louise Wheeless of Round Rock, Texas. She also was very attached to Deanna’s dogs Wen and Duey. Duey never left her side especially in the final days as he laid in bed to comfort her 24 hours a day. Visitation and a rosary will be held on Sunday August 27, 2023, at 7pm at Virgil Wilson Funeral Home, 2200 North Conway, Mission Texas. A mass will follow on Monday August 28 at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 620 N Dunlap Ave, Mission Texas followed by a short burial where her urn will be placed alongside her loving husband at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery. 2520 S.
