PALMVIEW, TX/ RAYMONDVILLE, TX– Guadalupe “Sonny” Hernandez, 65. “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”__Romans 12:12. These are the words Guadalupe “Sonny “Hernandez lived by. Sonny went to join his Lord and Savior on September 17, 2013, after battling cancer for the last year and a half. At the time Sonny entered into eternal rest, he was surrounded by his devoted wife, Letty Lopez-Hernandez and family, as well as a bevy of loyal friends, whose unfailing love and support were a constant source of strength for him. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Maria de Leon-Hernandez and Guadalupe Hernandez Sr., as well as his first wife, Paula Hernandez, and his father-in-law, Gilberto Lopez Sr.,. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife Letty Lopez-Hernandez his 3children, Sonny Hernandez III (Yvette), John David Hernandez (Alyssa), and Christina (Danny) Hernandez. Also surviving are a sister, Imelda (Sabas) Gallegos, and son, and a half- sister, Lucy Reyna, and Alyssa Rodriguez Ramirez (Ramiro), whom he loved as a daughter, his loving sister-in-law Yoli Lopez-Garza (David), his brother-in-law Beto Lopez Jr. (Diana), Bobby (Maria Elena) and Gilbert Lopez. Sonny’s legacy lives on in his 3 children, 18 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, and the apple of his eye, his granddaughter, Alexa “Lexie” Ramirez. Always by Grandpa Sonny’s side, Lexie has his same sunny disposition and a lifetime of memories to cherish. Sonny was born on July 31, 1948, in Raymondville, Texas. As a resident of Palmview, Sonny was very active in his community. For the last 12 yrs. Sonny served his community as a volunteer fireman for the Palmview Volunteer Fire Dept. Whatever the task, Sonny was there with a smile on his face, ready to lend a helping hand, no matter the time or the hour. He touched many lives and saved some too. He was retired from Schlumberger after 27 years of service and was a gentle, loving soul who will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. He was an avid sportsman, and as such his hobbies included hunting, fishing, cooking out, watching the Dallas Cowboys, but most of all, spending time with his family and friends, and praising the Lord. He used to say that when he married Letty, he gained a new set of parents, siblings, and a grandma to boot! Palmview Fire Department brothers Sonny was a faith filled man and derived great strength from his faith. “When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust: I will not be afraid.” __PSALM 56:3-4 Visitation will be today, Thursday, September 19, 2013 and Friday, September 20, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Virgil Wilson Mortuary Memorial Chapel in Mission, Texas. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission.
