McAllen ---Edmundo Garza 90, A wonderful husband, father and grandfather passed peacefully into eternal rest on May 8, 2024. Edmundo was born November 20 of 1933 in McAllen Texas to Sofia Bourbois Garza (mother), and Hermogenes Garza (father). Edmundo is preceded in death by his mother and father, Sister, Hermelinda (+Alberto), Brother, Rudolpho Garza, (+Minerva) and Brother, Felix Garza (Estella). Edmundo is survived by his sister Herlinda Reyna (+Hector), Felicita Dreumont, (+Carlos) and Hermongenes Garza Jr. (Acela Garza). In addition, Edmundo is survived by his lovely wife Maria Eva Garza of Edcouch, Successful Son, Carlos Javier Garza, Plano Tx. Dedicated Daughter Sofia Luana Gilliland (Todd) and his two handsome and dear grandchildren, Andrew Todd Gilliland Jr. and William Tate Gilliland of McAllen. Edmundo has many nephews and nieces he loved. Edmundo and his beautiful wife loved to travel the world. They enjoyed traveling with friends and family. Edmundo and wife were a apart of a Sembradores de Amistad, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping deserving young Hispanics to attend college. Edmundo especially enjoyed and felt the need for helping those in need. He also enjoyed listening to Big Band music, and while he was a board member of the Hidalgo County and International Civitan service organization, Edmundo, was known for bringing in well-known Jazz orchestras to the Rio Grande Valley as fundraisers, including Woody Herman. This helped the purpose of the organization greatly. The purpose of this volunteer organization was to serve individuals and community needs, with a special focus on helping people with developmental disabilities. This was very fulfilling to his soul. Edmundo was a man of great character, hardworking, and had an awesome sense of humor. He was a religious man, devote to the Catholic faith. Edmundo was a dedicated educator for over thirty-seven years. He started as a Band director, and ended his career as a vocation adjustment coordinator from McAllen High school. He taught Special Education classes and was responsible for finding his student’s job. Edmundo then guided and counseled his students to assure their success in their job during High School. His students also cared and appreciated him greatly for his efforts. Friends and family will gather for a visitation service on Monday, May 13, 2024 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with a rosary at 6:00pm at Virgil Wilson Mortuary in Mission, Texas. followed by a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 1:30pm at Our Lady of Sorrows Church which is locates on 1108 W. Hackberry Ave. in McAllen, TX. 78501. Interment will follow at 2:30pm at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission, Texas.
