PEÑITAS - Amelia F. Moreno, loving wife, mother and grandmother, went on to eternal rest on Wed., Oct. 4th, 2017, in McAllen. She was born on May 28, 1941, in San Miguel, Tamps., MX, to Octavio Flores and Guillermina Lopez Flores. She was preceded in death by her parents, adoring husband of 52 yrs. Nieves Moreno (2011), sisters, Lupe Guzman, Alicia Gandaria, Guillermina “Chiqui” Gandaria, Arminda Chapa & Alma Salinas, & brothers, Octavio Flores, Jr. & Saul Flores. She is survived by 4 children, Nancy Morales (Mario) of Palmview, Dalia Mendiola (Ricky) of Penitas, Queen Mendiola of McAllen, & Jesse Moreno of Hollywood, CA, 8 grandchildren, Cori Morales (Eleazar) of Mission, Laura Macias (Elias Jr.) of La Joya, Regina Mendiola (Jamie) of McAllen, Jon & Victoria Isa Mendiola of Penitas, Prue Mendiola of Hollywood, CA, Monica Aisha Mendiola of Sacramento, CA, & Norma Ayala of McAllen, 6 great grandchildren, Camila & Emma Rangel of Mission, Elias III, Alexia & Leah Macias of La Joya, & Diego Mendiola of Penitas. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Aurora Collins of Oceanside, CA, Anabel Flores of Penitas, and 2 brothers, Serapio Flores of Hollister, CA, & Sigifredo Flores of Penitas, 2 aunts, Senaida Ramirez (Oscar) & Olivia Salinas (Miguel) of Palmview, numerous brothers & sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mom was a selfless person. Her family immigrated to America during her adolescence & followed the crops from Illinois to Calif. with frequent stays in the RGV, where she and dad eventually settled. (For their love story, Google “obituary Nieves Moreno”). Although her education was minimal, she was often the wisest person in the room. She was bilingual & assisted many neighbors, friends & acquaintances with filling out paperwork. Countless woman gained their independence because mom took the time & effort to teach them to drive often much to their spouses’ chagrin. She felt her mission in life was to serve the sick from driving people to and from doctor’s appointments to hospital visits & even administering injections. After dad’s stroke, mom fulfilled the most selfless act of all. She lovingly cared for him for the 14 years he had left. Nephews, nieces, umpteen Godchildren & friends often called on her in times of distress. She had an undying strength and will to resolve anything. She was a devout Catholic and served as a Eucharistic Minister at OLQA/La Joya for many years. Woe the Protestant who knocked on her door and dared to question her faith. Mom wore many hats throughout her life but she took most pride in her roles of wife, mother, grandmother, sister, & aunt and not necessarily by blood for many considered her a relative. She had an ability to say just the right thing at just the right time. She mentored so many especially her children & grandchildren. We will forever cherish the memories & be grateful for the values she and dad instilled in us, their children & grandchildren. Mom, your wish was granted. You & dad are together again with all of our other loved ones who went before us. You will forever be in our hearts. Family will be receiving family and friends today, Friday, October 6, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at the Lord and I Memorial Chapel in Peñitas, Texas. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in La Joya, Texas. Interment will follow to Havana Cemetery in Havana, Texas.
